Moving factories, workshops, and production lines is a sensitive operation and an engineering task, not just transportation. Every minute of downtime is a cost. We do it in a planned way, with rigging, heavy equipment, and risk control — from preliminary audit to the organized line at the new location.

In industrial relocation, the most expensive item is not the crane, but the stopped machines. Therefore, the main question is not “how to move”, but “how to reduce downtime”.
Plan by lines, not by room:
- Instead of thinking “move workshop 1, then workshop 2”, plan by production lines or technological chains. This allows you to temporarily maintain critical operations at the old site while the new one is being completed.
Work in windows, not chaos:
- Night windows, weekend operations, phased machine shutdowns — these are the tools to reduce downtime. Critical machines are often moved last and started first at the new location.
Prepare a production “buffer”:
- When possible, produce buffer quantities (intermediate or finished products) to cover the relocation period. This gives breathing room to clients and reduces the risk of urgent, inefficient decisions.
- If needed, this buffer can be stored in Atlant's warehouses and logistics areas, so it does not block your premises and you have peace of mind for the move itself.
Separate tasks: mechanical, electrical, IT:
- Dismantling/assembly, power supply, air, gas, networks, and software integrations should run in parallel tracks. One coordinating team and clearly assigned roles between “Your” and “Our” specialists are decisive.
The ultimate goal is not just “the machines are moved”, but that the first quality unit comes out as soon as possible.
The warehouse is often the “silent problem” in industrial relocation. Everyone watches the machines, but a blocked warehouse can stop work even after the lines are assembled.
Inventory before moving:
- Differentiate “critical materials” from slow-moving and excess;
- Clean the “museum” — old parts, obsolete materials, unnecessary spare parts;
- Decide what actually makes sense to “travel” to the new site and what is time to be written off.
Temporary warehouse (buffer):
Intermediate storage is often required — in the internal yard, external warehouse, or part of the new base.
It is important:
- to have traceability (labels, locations, lists);
- not to mix raw materials with waste materials and old batches;
- to be clear what is “working stock” and what is reserve/buffer.
When there simply “is no room to breathe” on-site, the buffer does not necessarily have to stay with you. Start in the new warehouse:
When starting at the new location:
- Choose logical locations and addressing (zones, rows, levels, positions);
- Synchronize warehouse software / ERP with the new layout;
- Provide training for staff on the new scheme so that “everyone arranges in their own way” does not happen.
A well-planned warehouse ensures that machines do not wait for material or logistics — documents — and the move passes through controlled buffers rather than controlled crises.
Moving an 8-ton lathe or a 15-ton press is not just “heavier lifting” — it is work with real risk for people, building, and equipment.
Risk assessment before the first bolt:
- The serious process starts with inspection and risk analysis: floor weaknesses, tight turns, ramps, pits, low beams, old plates. Many incidents happen not during lifting, but during maneuvers in tight spaces.
The right equipment for the right task:
- There is a difference between a “forklift” and the correct forklift: capacity, fork length, counterweights, heights, turning radius. The same applies to crane trucks, hydraulic carts, sliding systems, and rigging accessories.
Safety zones are not a formality:
- During lifting operations, there must be clear prohibited zones for staff, marked routes, and a person responsible for signals and commands. “Everyone watches, everyone helps” is a recipe for chaos.
Documents and insurance:
For heavy and expensive machines, it is reasonable to have:
- insurance during transport and handling;
- handover protocols with photographic evidence;
- clear description of the condition “before” and “after”.
The good news is that controlled risk is manageable — as long as it is approached engineering-wise, not “by feel”.
