Sea Transport

More cargo - by sea

Stability, volume, and global reach

Sea transport remains the most reliable solution for moving large quantities of goods over long distances. Atlant Logistics & Relocations organizes full and groupage sea shipments in standard and specialized containers – including refrigerated and bulk cargo.

We work with leading shipping lines and a global agent network, allowing us to provide precise logistics, customs services, and competitive transit times for import and export on all major sea routes.

Useful tips

Everything you need to know about Sea Transport

In sea transport, the key decision is often how to use the container:

FCL (Full Container Load)

FCL (Full Container Load) – one container for one client. Suitable for sufficient volume, high-value, or sensitive goods. Fewer handling operations, better control, and lower risk of damage.

LCL (Less than Container Load)

LCL (Less than Container Load) – groupage, where you share a container with other cargo. An excellent solution for smaller quantities, test shipments, and entering new markets.

Both options are part of container transport – the most universal form of sea freight, ensuring cargo protection and easier handling throughout the chain (port – rail – road transport).

Besides container transport, logistics also uses:

Bulk transport

For grain, coal, and minerals.

Tanker transport

For liquids: oil, gas, and chemicals.

Ro-Ro transport

For vehicles that drive on and off under their own power.

In Atlant Logistics & Relocations practice, for most commercial and industrial goods, the solution lies in containers – the question is when it makes sense to switch from LCL to FCL. With proper analysis of volume, frequency, and destinations, a forwarder can save you both unnecessary “air” and expensive groupage fees.

Sea transport is slower than air, but with good organization, it is one of the most predictable and stable options in international logistics.

What stands behind this predictability

  • Fixed schedules of shipping lines and relatively stable transit times.
  • The ability to plan production, sales, and promotions weeks or months ahead.
  • Stable pricing with long-term contracts and regular flows – especially for large volumes.

The main advantages of sea transport stand out here:

  • Cost efficiency – transporting large volumes at a relatively low cost per ton/kilometer.
  • Global reach – connecting ports worldwide and providing access to remote markets.
  • Flexibility – handling a wide range of cargo types: from small LCL shipments to oversized and heavy cargo via Ro-Ro or specialized vessels.
  • Environmental efficiency – lower carbon footprint per ton/kilometer compared to air and pure road transport.

The critical part is building a realistic backward schedule – from the desired delivery date back to:

loading → consolidation/LCL or FCL → customs → production readiness.

In sea transport, documents are not just “paper for the archive,” but a control tool over the cargo. This applies to container shipments as well as bulk, tanker, or Ro-Ro transport.

Key documents

For bulk and tanker transport, there are often additional requirements for analyses and quality/composition certificates, while for Ro-Ro – vehicle documents, VIN numbers, registration papers, and more.

  • Bill of Lading – the main document proving ownership of the cargo. In container transport, there are often different forms (original, sea waybill, etc.) that affect cargo release.
  • Commercial invoice and packing list – the basis for customs procedures, duties, and control.
  • Specific certificates – origin, quality, sanitary, phytosanitary, etc. – especially important for food, raw materials, and chemicals.

An error or inaccuracy in these documents can:

  • block a container or vessel batch at the port;
  • generate additional demurrage and storage charges;
  • delay release and distribution to customers.

That is why it is important to work with a forwarder like Atlant Logistics & Relocations, who checks details before loading – ensuring the sea remains a predictable logistics corridor, not a source of costly surprises.
